A Campus Chapter is a non-corporate, student-run, student-led organization on a secondary school or university campus that partners with a local Habitat affiliate.
Habitat for Humanity believes that young people are the builders and leaders of today and tomorrow. In that spirit, we seek to offer young people opportunities to partner with Habitat for Humanity in a sustainable and productive way. We continuously seek to create nurturing environments where youth can develop skills in community leadership and teamwork while providing continued valuable resources toward elimination of poverty housing.
Campus Chapter members constantly learn and develop new skills. Working in a team to realize Habitat’s mission, their projects have a real personal, as well as social impact. These include:
Campus Chapter leaders and members are encouraged to advocate for affordable housing. In educating others in their local community, they raise awareness surrounding Habitat’s work and the problem of substandard housing. This may be done through:
Volunteering allows chapter members the opportunity to gain new skills, work on existing skills and physically contribute to helping families and communities build strength, stability and independence. Campus Chapters volunteer with Habitat in a number of ways:
Campus Chapters support the low-income families and the communities in need through fundraising or creating needed recourses. Chapters may organize all kinds for activities in or out of school to fund for their own overseas Global Village Program, local building trips, or general donation to Habitat for Humanity. Once you have a complete understanding of the Campus Chapter’s program and have determined that your group is ready to apply, here are the steps to officially register with Habitat for Humanity China:
Step 1: Make sure your school does not have a Campus Chapter.
To locate a campus chapter, simply search for your school. If your school is not listed, your school does not have an active Campus Chapter.
Step 2: Recruit group members. One Campus Chapter needs at least one president and one treasurer.
Step 3: Get approval from your school. Find out what steps you must take to form a student group on your campus and choose a Campus Chapter advisor from your school.
Step 4: Contact Habitat China at firstname.lastname@example.org for the application form
Step 5: Complete and submit the application form to Habitat China and wait to receive approval.
Step 6: Sign a MOA with Habitat China.
